Capuccino Anarchists and the X Factor

It is obvious that there is an anti Simon lobby consisting of a small number of 'Cappuccino Anarchists' as I call them, who are determined to discredit the X Factor show by getting as many people to vote for the worst ever act and by doing so keep the only man who can't sing, Wagner, in the show.

Now whilst I have some sympathy with moderate armchair type of anarchism, I think these people, who are obviously bored with life, are in danger of ensuring that this guy Wagner wins the X Factor. This will of course mean the end of the show and turn it into the C for crap Factor (in which case am entering as a singer next year!) It will be a great shame as the show allows undiscovered talent to shine and young people given the opportunity to follow their dream!

  1. No, Nick - it raises false hopes amongst many thousands of young people that they can be plucked from obscurity by the hand of Cowell and presented with an unimaginably-wealthy lifestyle. It promotes chance, luck, and easy living over hard work and living in the real world and is totally warping the perspectives of many young people. How can a 17 year old declare its all they've ever lived for and that their life is over because they fail to get into 'boot camp'. I'm all for talented people making the most of their gifts, but signing off your soul to SyCo is not the way to do it. And on another theme, this show is contributing to the blanding out of our culture - we are never going to hear anything remotely left-field on this blancmange bilge. Let's demand and celebrate difference - not the lowest common denominator - in music as in all fields of human endeavour (and I say that as a great fan of pop music). For those reasons I will support attempts to rip away any shreds of credibility the show claims to haved, though I won't be putting a single penny in Cowell's pockets and phoning in to support anyone, ever.

  2. As you know it is a policy not to publish anonymous comments on this blog, saying that I liked your comments a lot and therefore have suspended the 'policy'.

You make some very valid points and part of me agrees that any movement to discredit the money making machine of Simon Cowel is a good one. On the other hand there is no other way, unfortunately, to enable people like Matt Cardle who is a phenomenon, to have the chance to exhibit what he has? Or Rebecca for that matter? What if the profits from the 'show' were taxed at 90% and the money collected went to found the arts? That would be one way to catch the falsness that is Simon Cowel? But on balance I feel that unless there is an alternative way to allow us to see talented people like Matt or Rebecca the show must stay on? Wagner is total shit and you know it! Who are you by the way? :-)
