Do we need to regulate blogs?

I understand the technical arguments advanced by some on other blogs concerning the matter to do with bloggers belonging to a TU capable of representing them. Simon Chapman made the argument and the technical reasons as to why this isn't possible clear in his reply to an article on Elizabeth Winkler's page and he is of course right in many ways.

I would imagine that if Simon is right and joining a TU isn't possible then bloggers should consider getting together and forming some sort of a collective with rules and a code of practice? And then maybe have a democratic structure to allow for decisions or a change in rules to take place? The ‘collective’ can of course be attached to an established TU like a Self Organised Group is in Unison.

I think this is a subject that needs more debate but we should have some rules on how TU bloggers conduct themselves I am, for example, against allowing non constructive anonymous comments but I am aware that many publish negative and sometimes offensive content.

  1. Nick, It will require a huge effort to deliver what you suggest but I agree that those who want to blog should exercise a high degree of discretion when allowing anonymous comments, on the other hand you don't want to put those of us who are somewhat shy off the idea of contributing? Its about keeping a balance?
