Ban shark fishing

You've heard of snake oil, perhaps -- the famous "medicine" peddled by con artists that usually contained nothing that would actually help people. But have you ever heard of shark oil?

In the UK, many fish oil supplements contain material from endangered sharks.

The reported benefits of Omega-3 supplements vary widely. Many experts say that the way to reap the rewards is to include them in a balanced diet, rather than popping the pills. But regardless of how you get your Omegas, one thing is for sure: those tablets that people are buying by the truckload often contain parts from endangered shark species.

Oil from endangered deep sea shark species such as the goblin shark and the leafscale gulper is widely used in the omega-3 supplements sold in the UK with almost no restrictions. As a result, the already threatened sharks are under more pressure than ever before.
