Greek unemployment rate

Greece's unemployment rate jumped to 18.2 percent in October, up from 17.5 percent in September and 13.5 percent a year earlier, according to data released by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTA) this Thursday. Earlier predictions had put the figure at 18 percent.

According to ELSTA, 219.478 people have left the labor market since October 2010, putting the total number of unemployed at 903.525. The unemployment rate is not as high as that of Spain which shows 23% however Greece has got all the adverse publicity through negative reporting.

Unemployment among youth, aged between 15 and 24, reached 45.5 percent, the data showed.
