Get the balance right

I posted the following comment on fellow blogger Ian Bones entry regarding Vicky Eastons comments on tv this morning http://ianbone.wordpress.com/2011/01/05/its-started-unison-warns-of-march-26th-demo-hijacked-by-trouble-makers/

''I think what Vicky Easton was saying this morning on national television, is that the vast majority of those who want to demonstrate their opposition to the savage public sector cuts would want to do so without the need to resort to violent confrontation? I don’t think this is unreasonable somehow? We must all oppose what is being proposed by do so peacefully otherwise we will lose public support and as we are taking to the streets to support the affect of cuts on the public we need to have them on our side?''

  1. You don't need to go to a demonstration intent on violence to end up in a scrap with the Old Bill. As the police have planned and instigated trouble at numerous demonstrations over the past 20 years (from the poll tax riot, the Welling riot of '93, the Hyde Park riot of '94 to the Gaza demonstrations of 2008/09, the G20 and the student demonstrations of November and December) there's a fair chance that the real 'outside agitators' will have their way on 26 March as the TSG and their colleagues from the boroughs will carry on their old tradition.

  2. Hi Harry

I take your point but those of us in leadership positions must come out publicly and make it clear that we oppose violence on both sides. In that respect Vicky Easton had a point?

    Cheers
