What is a true Brit?

There is some discussion on one or two other blogs referring to the concept of true Britishness and all I wanted to say is that I as a true Brit born living and contributing here support anyone fighting against stupid ideologies from far right parties such as the BNP who are only interested in gathering publicity. But we must be careful how we use some terms sometimes and to refer to someone as a true Brit would imply that there are two categories of British citizen? That is not right at all and must immediately be challenged. It also means that if someone is a true Brit then someone else is less of a Brit?

  1. Thanks for the clarification John. No one doubts this but sometimes the use of terms in the wrong context creates a misunderstanding. Louise, to be honest, is brave enough to take them on and we will all support her. Lets concentrate on that and I hope the other smaller groups will support M Hodge to ensure that we don't lose valuable votes otherwise they will shown themselves up.

    Cheers

  5. John as usual you indulge in ridicules name calling when you have lost the argument! You have not addressed any of my points about how this panders to BNP. As for it only being trots who would criticise such language I doubt it somehow, many people in unison I have profound disagreements with are still nether the less internationalists who would bulk at the use of the phrase“true brit”

Nick thanks for taking the issue up and good post, assume in John’s eyes that makes you a trot too!

  6. Hi Andrew
You call or imply anyone who happens to disagree with you a racist. Which I think is a sign of your own political insecurity rather than anything else.

I hope (without much expectation) that you are ashamed of your remarks and will support Louise against Griffin and the Fascists. But I won’t hold my breath.

  7. John and Andrew, Hello to both.

I don't think Andrew has called anyone a racist but he was merely pointing out that the use of the term 'true Brit' could be misinterpreted? And there is no question about Louise Cooling as what she is doing is very positive and we should all support her to make sure she wins against the BNP. I am saying this as a real and true Brit!
