The chances of getting time off to attend some union regional debating society is nonexistent and simply not a priority.

Vera
I imagine SWP John McLoughlin only got the most results because UL do not understand PR.
TerryAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1027012696648038180.post-28892392080431067002009-04-04T12:54:00.000+01:002009-04-04T12:54:00.000+01:00Hello Vera (Surely not Duckworth?)Thanks for your ...Hello Vera (Surely not Duckworth?)

Thanks for your comments. I reported the result of the AGM election and concentrated on the 3 top positions. I know John has come top in the regional comm elections and that is perhaps because he is well known and respected even by those who are not on the left in other words this supports my theory that the 20% of floating or in my opinion independent thinkiers (I include myself in that category) are also convinced by what they know people standing for elections have done. Despite the fact that I disagree politically with the SWP approach I find that some of their activists (including John) are genuine people who fight for what they believe. This, in my opinion explains why the floating vote supported people like John. It could also have something to do with the fact that he looks like Richard Gere? Ah maybe not...

The lesson is those who ignore the independent thinkers in the region will lose out.

Hope that Jack is ok by the way?

Nick VenediNick Venedihttp://www.lawatwork.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1027012696648038180.post-47440951868740737142009-04-04T12:48:00.000+01:002009-04-04T12:48:00.000+01:00NickYou appear to be more critical of those of us ...Nick

You appear to be more critical of those of us in the UL and some of your comments are therefore not balanced. You do not, for example, mention the fact that John (the SWP John) has got more votes in the Regional Committee election than any of the others? Why is that?

VeraAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1027012696648038180.post-83493500982291398342009-04-04T10:14:00.000+01:002009-04-04T10:14:00.000+01:00Dear Anon at 18.58I think the point has now been m...Dear Anon at 18.58

I think the point has now been made clearly that there are those of us, activists in front line jobs, that make their duty a priority and they don't have as much time as others to attend and participate in numerous meetings that are sometimes used for point scoring. I think that those who criticise people who have to go back to work and help others should be send to a hospital ward one afternoon to see how busy our members there are.Nick Venedihttp://www.lawatwork.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1027012696648038180.post-8994909156034702262009-04-03T18:58:00.000+01:002009-04-03T18:58:00.000+01:00Are people really slagging off those who had to go...Are people really slagging off those who had to go back to short staffed wards? Surely the core issue is that -bearing in mind there was a major project within the region about mapping and increasing facility time( what happened to that?) -our regional support for members to attend regional council should be part and parcel of the development plan for the region so we can ensure max participation. A lot of peeps attending took annual leave -in health (and elsewhere)-which is why so many of us were in the pub after the health agm. Would we not like region -offocials and officers -to now be seen to assist in trying to enure that Regional council meetings are supported by facility time so we can really participate as opposed to just turning up because we are told to so we can vote?Am I being daft to hope that?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1027012696648038180.post-89086030234456406942009-04-02T22:16:00.000+01:002009-04-02T22:16:00.000+01:00Dear Anon 17.56Thanks for your comment and I agree...Dear Anon 17.56

Thanks for your comment and I agree with you.
